Matheson & Associates was first established in 2010. Since then, we have provided top quality legal representation to the hundreds of clients who have trusted us with their cases. We feel that a top-notch legal representation does not start and end at the courthouse; our quality attorneys are available to our clients and potential clients at any time.

We know every legal problem is attached to a person who needs help. Once retained, we will perform a diligent and comprehensive case evaluation. Our team will review the evidence and research the applicable case law and statutes to determine what would be our clients best legal course of action. Through the process, we keep our clients informed of any case updates, making sure our clients are never left in the dark.

Attorneys

M. Moseley Matheson, Esq. – Founder and Managing Partner

Moseley Matheson is a Managing Partner at the NC DWI Law Center with experience on both sides of the North Carolina criminal justice system. His passion for criminal defense started in law school, where he interned with the ACLU’s Capital Punishment Project and the Durham County Public Defender’s Office. The North Carolina Bar Associated awarded him a Certificate of Recognition for his outstanding service with these organizations. He went on to serve as an Assistant District Attorney for Harnett County before returning to criminal defense work. Now, he focuses the greater bulk of his practice on DWI defense in North Carolina.

Moseley is a sought out speaker, writer, and thought leader on criminal law issues. He is the Managing Editor of the North Carolina Criminal Law Deskbook, a resource for criminal defense attorneys, and authored the chapter on DWIs. He has been named among the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers Organization as well as a Top 10 Best in Client Satisfaction by the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys.

Moseley is a cum laude graduate of North Carolina Central School of Law. He is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Wake County Bar Association and Tenth Judicial District Bar, and the Wake County Academy of Criminal Trial Lawyers. He is licensed to practice law in all North Carolina state courts as well as the Eastern District of North Carolina’s federal courts and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Outside of work, Moseley enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and two rescue dogs, restoring and fabricating cars, and volunteering with the Capital Area Teen Court program.

John R. Szymankiewicz, Esq., P.E., – Managing Partner

John Szymankiewicz is a licensed professional engineer, attorney, and the Managing Partner of Matheson & Associates. With an extensive background in both criminal defense and North Carolina alcoholic beverage law, John frequently shares his knowledge and experience with the NC DWI Law Center.

John has been a distinguished member of the Board of Directors of the Wake County Bar Association and has received the President’s Award for his service to the Wake County legal community. He is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Wake County Bar Association and Tenth Judicial District Bar, and the American Bar Association. He is licensed to practice law in all North Carolina state courts, the federal district courts in the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

He lives in Raleigh with his wife, daughter, and three other “children” of the four-legged variety. Outside of work, he is an avid homebrewer who enjoys making and sampling craft beers while supporting local, independent businesses.

Jammie Lynn Wacenske, Esq. – Senior Associate

From a young age, Jammie always wanted to be a lawyer. Driven by her desire to help those in need, she started her legal career at North Carolina Central University Law School, where she was an active participant in various campus activities like the Intellectual Property Law Society, the school’s pro bono program, and the Elder Law Project, where she drafted wills for indigent clients. She also participated in the Lawyer on the Line Project, where she assisted Legal Aid by providing clients with legal guidance on landlord tenant matters. In her spare time, she enjoys learning to paint, sew, and knit.

London Tessener, Esq. – Associate Attorney

London started working with Matheson & Associates as an intern while she was still a student at Campbell Law School. Since then, she has quickly become our in-house expert on trademark litigation and general business and corporate law matters. She also applies her knowledge and experience to assisting the NC DWI Law Center.

London is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association, as well as being a board member for WomenNC. She lives in Raleigh with her two dogs and her husband, whom she met at Campbell Law School and who practices law in Durham. London also fosters dogs through Second Chance Pet Adoptions.

Andres Tomey, Esq. – Associate Attorney

Hailing from Venezuela, Andres brings energy and passion to our team. He enjoys helping his clients overcome DWIs and other criminal matters, and his goal is to provide reliable legal counsel while helping his clients navigate a stressful time in their lives with peace and clarity. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Andres is an asset to our office, as he is frequently able to serve our Spanish-speaking clients. He has attended court in multiple North Carolina counties, which has given him exposure and experience navigating the unique customs of different courthouses and systems.

Andres is a graduate of Campbell Law School, where he participated in the Community Law Clinic: his first hands-on criminal defense experience. He joined the NC DWI Law Center in 2020. Outside of work, Andres enjoys working out, spending time with his dog, painting, and collecting vinyl records.

Support Staff

Sarah Brooks – Office Manager

Florida native Sarah Brooks joined Matheson & Associates in 2016. She earned her BA in Education from the University of North Florida and her Masters in Educational Leadership from The Florida State University. Before joining Matheson & Associates, Sarah taught third and fifth grade in Florida and North Carolina. She also worked with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, where she taught reading and writing skills to young adults serving sentences in the juvenile detention center.

Sarah is a member of the Association of Legal Administrators and serves on its Community Outreach Committee. She is also a volunteer with the Wake County Guardian ad Litem program. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys heading to the beach, spending time with her niece and nephew, and cheering on the Florida State Seminoles.

Melissa Signorelli – Criminal Defense Paralegal

Originally from Long Island, New York, Melissa obtained her BA in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. On a day-to-day basis, Melissa works on administrative tasks in the office, including assisting with civil and criminal client matters, and she is a Notary Public. Recently she has taken on a larger role in supporting the Criminal Defense Department of Matheson & Associates. Outside of work, Melissa enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Chico.

Megan Sweeney – Family Law Paralegal

Megan earned her BA in English & Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating early with Highest Distinction. She is currently pursuing her Paralegal Certificate at Meredith College. She is also a Notary Public. On a day-to-day basis, Megan works alongside Attorney Wacenske to assist with family law and estate matters. Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with friends and learning languages.
